Realistic surgical training for young doctors

Horn, 19th October 2022

The "Arthrex Mobile Lab", a truck equipped with high quality arthroscopic workplaces and the latest camera technology, visited the department led by Prim. Prof. Dr. med. habil. Lars Victor von Engelhardt at the state clinic in Horn. This allowed the team of trauma surgeons to practice arthroscopy on knee and shoulder specimens under realistic conditions. Prof. von Engelhardt previously experienced this valuable professional training in France and North America. He sees it as a great opportunity to improve surgical skills, test new instruments and exchange ideas with the industry, especially for young doctors.

A celebratory step forward. Today, a doctoral candidate and young colleague of Prof. von Engelhardt, Jan Philipp Reumann, publicly defended his doctoral thesis with a very good rating. The thesis focuses on a severe and complicated knee injury, known as a tibial plateau fracture. Prof. von Engelhardt oversaw the scientific publication as doctoral supervisor. The responsible commission at the University of Witten-Herdecke awarded the thesis magna cum laude. Jan Philipp Reumann fully deserves the successful completion and very good rating after several years of work on the thesis under the guidance of Prof. von Engelhardt.

Damme, April 2020

Good news from the Sports Clinic and Endocenter Damme. The team in the practice Dr. Berg/Prof. von Engelhardt has been distinguished as one of five German and 34 global "Centers of Excellence" for hip and shoulder arthroplasty. This distinction pertains to minimally invasive arthroplasty using a sophisticated short-stem hip prosthesis as well as an equally successful shoulder prosthesis system.

The distinction was based on the high quality of performed surgeries and the continuity of high quality scientific studies in this area. These studies contribute to the further optimisation of surgical outcomes. Additionally, the accomplishments in the training of colleagues in the area of arthroplasty, as well as the dedication as an instructor and lecturer at countless surgical training courses and further education events, were named as reasons for the distinction.

Today, the distinction was presented by the Managing Director of Corin, Klaus Clemens (right) and the Head of Technology, Sydney Lenza (second from left). Dr. Tom Berg and Prof. Lars Victor von Engelhardt accepted the distinction. A continuing collaboration is very important. There are few things better than effective improvements in the quality of patient care, both in the area of technical advancement as well as in the area of training of medical colleagues. Thus, further projects and collaborations were discussed at this important and enjoyable meeting in Damme.
